DragonCon in a nutshell

Had a great time at DragonCon this past weekend. My friend S.I. summed it up really well:

Where else can you watch pro wrestling, play MechWarrior in a battletech pod, watch Martok and Gowron debate Klingon politics in costume, *and* be drinking the whole time?
Preach, brother.

Bill Brazell, friend of @reddit and @breadpig, has a beautiful baby redditor (and wife!)

Bill has been a longtime friend of reddit since our early days with Federated Media. He kindly took a few photos of the adorable Genevieve Brazell and allowed me to share them here on my blog. I'd also like to note that I'm supporting Bill (AKA Kenny the Kidney) on his walk for a cure for PKD - you should, too! Or at least take a look at his fabulous Kenny the Kidney costume.

Redditors really need to watch tonight's episode of Colbert (I got to ask your top-voted question during pre-show Q&A)

As requested by the reddit hivemind, I introduced myself and asked this top-voted question:

"Mr. Colbert, when will you be holding the Restoring Truthiness rally?"

He replied that he didn't know anything about Glen Beck's rally, or the groundswell of online support for a "Truthiness" rally. (Just watch the show, trust me).

Then he asked if I was really a reddit co-founder. Stephen then noted that we were alienating the rest of the non-nerd audience, but went on to ask why the digg vs. reddit competition was such a big deal.

Stephen Colbert confessed that he never visited digg, so he had no idea what that was all about.

I even got to meet a few redditors in the audience with me (always awesome). But Stephen Colbert has once again outdone himself. Thank you, Stephen. I have a feeling reddit will respond very well to this...

Keynoting Swagapalooza this Thursday in NYC – come liberate swag from The Man

Just 85 digital influencers will be selected to receive a bucketload of free stuff at Swagapalooza.

Among them will be members of Girls In Tech’s NYC chapter. And among those pitching their products and giving away the swag to the city’s biggest influences and digital denizens will be GIT members and their clients.

The blessed event is Thursday, Sept. 9, at Touch NY, and if you have something super-cool to pitch (or have a client who does), fill out the form here and detail what the product is and what makes it innovative (plus your name, e-mail and phone number). If you want the chance to attend for free stuff, well, you can apply here – and make sure you explain what makes you a top digital influencer (512 characters max!).

The fine folks at Girls in Tech blogged about the upcoming Swagapalooza event I'll be keynoting this Thursday in NYC. Please come by to say hello if you'll be there!
