(I didn't want to give anything away in my post-taping entry on Tuesday.) After this news, I'm officially a little giddy.
Had a great time at DragonCon this past weekend. My friend S.I. summed it up really well:
Where else can you watch pro wrestling, play MechWarrior in a battletech pod, watch Martok and Gowron debate Klingon politics in costume, *and* be drinking the whole time?Preach, brother.
As requested by the reddit hivemind, I introduced myself and asked this top-voted question:
"Mr. Colbert, when will you be holding the Restoring Truthiness rally?"
He replied that he didn't know anything about Glen Beck's rally, or the groundswell of online support for a "Truthiness" rally. (Just watch the show, trust me).
Then he asked if I was really a reddit co-founder. Stephen then noted that we were alienating the rest of the non-nerd audience, but went on to ask why the digg vs. reddit competition was such a big deal.
Stephen Colbert confessed that he never visited digg, so he had no idea what that was all about.
I even got to meet a few redditors in the audience with me (always awesome). But Stephen Colbert has once again outdone himself. Thank you, Stephen. I have a feeling reddit will respond very well to this...
These are two awesome redditors, so please take a look at this thread about their climb. I'm also thrilled about it because breadpig is matching all donations until they reach their goal.
Awesomesauce. I tip my hat to you, local weatherman.
If you're running OSX, you'd better be using Adium for your IM needs. Grab these nifty menu icons! I'm running them right now and they're the perfect complement to my reddit dock icon, which I'm thrilled to say is approaching 13,000 downloads.
Ah, startup life. Steve and I found this apartment because Chris Slowe had two spare bedrooms. Couldn't have worked out better for us, as Chris would join team reddit, all while finishing his PhD in Physics.
Just 85 digital influencers will be selected to receive a bucketload of free stuff at Swagapalooza.
Among them will be members of Girls In Tech’s NYC chapter. And among those pitching their products and giving away the swag to the city’s biggest influences and digital denizens will be GIT members and their clients.
The blessed event is Thursday, Sept. 9, at Touch NY, and if you have something super-cool to pitch (or have a client who does), fill out the form here and detail what the product is and what makes it innovative (plus your name, e-mail and phone number). If you want the chance to attend for free stuff, well, you can apply here – and make sure you explain what makes you a top digital influencer (512 characters max!).
The fine folks at Girls in Tech blogged about the upcoming Swagapalooza event I'll be keynoting this Thursday in NYC. Please come by to say hello if you'll be there!
And hurray for the AwesomeFoundation -- an unstoppable force of awesome!
