Frankly, I'd never heard of genever (aka jenever) until this House of Bols tour in Amsterdam. It's like a disco distillery tour. They even claim to have scientifically designed their new bottles for optimal pouring. Though, the best part of the genever story is that it was so favored by the British, they took the recipe back to the UK and tried (but failed) to recreate it. And thus gin was born.
